Cockatrice Species

cockatriceA cockatrice is an animal creature that is a two-legged and winged creature resembling a dragon with a rooster’s head and a dragon’s tail. It is a bipedal, feathered omnivore with a long tail and enlarged sickle-shaped claws on each foot, which are used to tackle and restrain prey.

Intelligence:  Low-level cognition, survival instinct, an acute sense of hearing, and animalistic-bird language.

Eyes & Eye Color:

They have colour receptors in the eye that supply abilities to perceive the visible range. The eye colour ranges from shades of brown and black. It has a paralyzing hypnotic stare.

Ears: These are hidden by the feathers on the side of the head. But when the feathers are pushed aside, the openings that serve as ears appear. There is no outer ear but they do have earlobes which can be seen.

Skull:  (Rooster/chicken-headed) Males have broader heads. Plumage ( feathers ) on the head/skull depends on gender. Females tend to be darker in colour. The feathers of a female are tinier and denser in feather strands. Males are brighter coloured with longer feathered and thicker in amounts.

Adults have a fleshy crest on their heads called a comb, or cockscomb, and hanging flaps of skin on either side under their beaks called wattles. Collectively, these and other fleshy protuberances on the head and throat are called caruncles. Both adult males and females have wattles and combs, but these are more prominent in males. A ‘muff’ or ‘beard’ is a mutation that causes extra feathering under the face, giving the appearance of a beard.

Body: Dragon-like scales and smooth. The colours of the underparts are generally a shade lighter. A newborn has dark spots, which fade upon reaching adulthood. Females tend to have softer skin and grow darker in colour when pregnancy occurs.

Tail: A dragon tail, with tiny scales, tapered tip

Wings/Wingspan: 2 Wings that are supple scales. These have a bone-like talon at the bending joints. Well-muscled, flexible and a vast membrane of strong, supple flesh.

Personality: It depends on the individual entity. But usually not trusting and violently aggressive predators.

Offspring:  1-2 eggs in a lifetime. Gestation is approximately 110 days in egg-type birthing.

They mate freely with all others of their species.

They tend to hunt only for a current food supply and never hunt for pleasure. It attacks with ferocity and takes advantage of all and any factors.

They are difficult to capture, elusive to find and tend to not be around humanoids if they can avoid humanoids. They make nest homes in hidden isolated places like cliffs, caverns and mountain regions.
